About this book
The Bed-Book of Happiness, by Harold Begbie, is described as a colligation or assemblage of cheerful writings brought together from many quarters for the diversion, distraction and delight of those who lie abed. An anecdote says that the president, disconcerted, turned to his brother judges, and the sorcerer was acquitted. An anecdote has the late beautiful Duchess of Devonshire stepping out of her carriage when a dustman standing by exclaims "Love and bless you, my lady, let me light my pipe in your eyes!"
A scene in dialogue gives lines to ARMANDE, HORTENSE and M. LOYAL, and M. LOYAL offers a fable that he heard to-day. The text tells of Vivier, who in an omnibus alarmed his fellow passengers by pretending to be mad and drew a pistol from his pocket; the pistol was made of chocolate.
