About this book
The Betrothed is by Walter Scott. An introduction says that The Tales of the Crusaders was determined upon as the title of the following series.
The Preses says he would wish some gentleman to speak on the question whether those associated to carry on a joint-stock trade in fictitious narrative, in prose and verse, ought not to be incorporated by Act of Parliament. A passage says that the Normans entitled the ceremony of being betrothed their fiancailles, and that the engagement preceded the actual marriage for a space more or less, according to circumstances. A minstrel’s countenance, which had hitherto been dark and troubled, is said to seem softened by the quiet of the scene.
