About this book
Fanny E. Coe's book gathers stories for the story-teller, as its title says. The preface argues that story-telling has value in the home and in the school, and quotes Miss Bryant's book How to Tell Stories to Children. It was first published in London in March 1914.
The tales sampled vary a good deal. In one, a cat that can no longer catch mice is left in the wood, and a fox builds him a little shed with a garden. The hare, the bear, the wolf and the wild boar plan a banquet and invite the fox and the cat, and the cat arches his back and cries "Mee-oo." In another, little dwarfs give Minnie gold and say that wealth of joy lies in the smallest duty done, and she always sweeps under the rug. The book also includes A Night with Santa Claus by Annie R. Annan and a story of a boy named Hans, who lives with his aunt and uncle among the Swiss mountains.
