About this book
The Cauliflower by A. A. Crozier carries, before the contents, remarks on the vegetable from three writers: Isaac F. Tillinghast of Pennsylvania, H. M. Stringfellow of Texas and Prof. E. S. Goff of Wisconsin. The contents list an introduction, origin and history, and a section on the cauliflower industry in Europe and in the United States.
One passage traces the plant through old references: Pliny's word cyma, three varieties known in Spain in the twelfth century, a mention by Lyte in 1586 under the name Cyprus coleworts, and Philip Miller's Gardener's Dictionary of 1741. Another passage describes how seed is cleaned and sacked for market, and a letter is dated from Fidalgo, Washington, in 1891. The book also has a list of defined terms and a list of references, including Bon Jardinier of 1859.
