About this book

The Circus Boys on the Plains, by Edgar B. P. Darlington, is subtitled Or, The Young Advance Agents Ahead of the Show. The contents list says, among others, that Teddy Tucker threatens to thrash the "Strongest Man on Earth" and that Phil and his chum are assigned to Advance Car Number Three. A moment after Phil Forrest appears at the door of the car, the showman Mr. Sparling greets him with "Why, good evening, Phil."

One speaker says, "I think there is another show car in the yards," and the other asks, "A show car?" Teddy is described as serious and thoughtful, but he decides not to tell Phil what he had done. Three car managers visit the station and leave orders that their cars are to be switched off at Owls' Valley.
