The Colonists by Raymond F. Jones carries a teaser that asks, if historical precedent be wrong, what qualities man must possess to successfully colonize new worlds. Captain Louis Carnahan thinks that they had seen four dry ones, that now had come the fourth wet one, and that soon they would be going home. General Winthrop is remembered as saying on the day of departure that the men were chosen to represent Mankind in the far reaches of the Universe.
The text says that Bailey had been the Chief Physicist and was now the official distiller, and that the rotgut he produced was the only thing that made existence bearable. Doctor Ashby says there is no piece of data you cannot find, provided you can devise the proper experimental procedure for turning it up. Ashby tells Bonnie they are dealing with something unique, and Bonnie answers that there could be another valid motive and that she thinks Mark Jorden's got it. A speaker says that the postulates of the test were taken away and Bonnie was left in his memory.
