About this book
The Memory of Mars is by Raymond F. Jones. In the book, Alice is dead, and the surgeons said she was not even human. The text says that in his misery, Hastings knew two things: he loved his wife, but they had never been off Earth. The text says a reporter should be objective even about a hospital, but that was no good, Mel Hastings told himself.
Dr. Winters tells Mr. Hastings that they did everything they could, and says he called in six other men to verify his observation. A steward says this is only the shuttle that they are on, and that passengers transfer to the liner for the remainder of the trip. The text mentions critical mass, a nuclear term, and two not-so-minor nuclear wars in fifty years.
