About this book
The Commercial Restraints of Ireland is a series of letters to a noble lord, presented as an historical account of the affairs of that kingdom. The edition also includes a sketch of the author's life, an introduction, notes and an index. The biographical discussion reports Duigenan's claim that Hutchinson complained he had been misled over the value of the Provostship.
The account of public affairs quotes the lords justices urging both houses to hasten business, citing the kingdom's prosperity and the risk of losing an opportunity. A note rejects the idea that encouragement of the linen trade could compensate for the wool trade, calling that encouragement a deception.
