About this book

The Complete Poetical Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, in two volumes, prints the poems with line numbers and bracketed page numbers, and with footnotes that give variant readings marked by years such as 1796 and 1803. One passage gives lines of Christabel in which Sir Leoline the Baron owns a mastiff that answers the clock, and Christabel goes to pray under a great oak in the midnight wood for her betrothed knight.

Another page prints To Fortune, a poem on buying a ticket in the Irish Lottery, preceded by a letter to the editor of the Morning Chronicle signed Cantab, S. T. C., and by a note that it was composed on a walk through Holborn and Cornhill. A further passage follows a fair Form with an olive-crowned brow who flees across a plain to a place of tombs, where a Maid speaks to her.
