About this book
The Double Widowing is by Charles Rivière Dufresny. The list of characters gives four men and six women, among them the Countess, an imperious woman of no particular age, Mr. Bramble, her steward, and the Widow, Bramble's wife. Lucy tells Desmond she has business that concerns both of them and that, to help them, he must hide from their widow the love he has for Arabella.
Desmond tells Lucy that it is not caprice and not exaggeration, and that he fears with his mind what he wants with all his heart. Tuneless says that the steward is back, having taken an express coach, and calls it a reversal. The Maid says the Countess is coming to rejoice and that they are going to sing and dance all night, and Bramble asks what that is about three weddings.
