About this book
The McNaughtens is a play based on the Menechemes of Regnard. The character list names, among others, Mr. Hastings, Flavella's father, Urania, Hastings' older sister, and Jenny, Urania's maid. Spruce says he approves of Urania and that "Without her money we'd be in an awful fix." The Captain asks "Whose trunk is this?" and Spruce answers "By George, it's yours."
Urania, pursuing the Captain part way, says "Don't think to escape me" and swears she will marry in spite of the daughter, the father, the relations, the whole family. McNaughten asks Torrington "Don't you have sixty thousand pounds inheritance for me?"
