The Essential Faith of the Universal Church; Deduced from the Sacred Records is by Harriet Martineau. The advertisement says that in March 1830 the Committee of the British and Foreign Unitarian Association offered a premium for three tracts, to be approved by them. The advertisement says Miss Martineau obtained the three prizes.
The writers say they are attached to their religion because they believe it to be primitive Christianity, as other Christians are to theirs. The writers find no intimation that any sin has ever been forgiven on any other condition than that of repentance. The text says there were only five patriarchs, belonging to the sees of Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem.
