About this book
The title page describes The Fairy Mythology as illustrative of the romance and superstition of various countries, by Thomas Keightley, in a new edition revised and greatly enlarged, London, 1892, and it is dedicated to the Earl of Ellesmere. A verse from Drayton about people who will be talking of the fairies still stands on the title page.
One passage tells of a Peri who bathes and dries her hair, asks an old woman to fetch the robes her husband kept hidden, puts them on and flies away to the sky. Another is about a spirit named Hinzelmann who stayed with two ladies, Anne and Catherine, travelled with them as a white feather and kept their suitors away. Another is a tale written in dialect in which a woman is pleased to hear her child praised as a born piper.
