About this book
The Firing Line is credited to George O. Smith. Mark Kingman is surprised by tapping on his windowpane, and his eyes become cross-eyed as they try to cope with a single circle not more than ten inches distant. A character named Murdoch explains that he was beaten by a technical error and that the coating on his ship did it.
The automatic meteor-circuits interpret the orbit of an oncoming object and decide that the object is not dangerous. Channing looks up at the luminescent spot, makes a casual observation and forgets about it; to him it is a harmless meteor. Franks yells “Launch 'em all!” and Channing asks “Are you nuts?”
