The Four Feathers
The Four Feathers is A. E. W. Mason’s famous adventure novel of cowardice and courage, first published in 1902. On the eve of his regiment’s departure for the Sudan, the young officer Harry Feversham resigns his commission, and three brother officers and his own fiancée send him four white feathers, the mark of a coward. Determined to win back his honour and their good opinion, Harry travels in secret to Egypt and the desert, where in disguise and at great risk he sets out to return each feather by an act of courage. About the Author
A. E. W. Mason (1865 to 1948) was an English novelist and playwright, remembered above all for The Four Feathers and for his detective Inspector Hanaud. He drew on his own travels and wartime service for many of his adventure stories.
