About this book
The Fun of Cooking is a story for girls and boys by Caroline French Benton. The contents list names chapters called, among others, The Day Before Christmas, Supper at the House in the Woods and The Birthday Picnic. A recipe for tartlets says to flour the pastry board, roll out some pie-crust very thin, and press it into little scalloped tins.
A rule for pop-corn balls lists molasses, sugar, vinegar, soda and butter. A recipe for fried corn-meal mush says to drop spoonfuls of the meal into the water gradually, so it does not stop boiling, and to stir steadily for ten minutes. When the fair was over, the ladies in charge of a Christmas fair sent a special little note to the candy committee telling them how well they had done.
