About this book

A Little Housekeeping Book for a Little Girl, with the subtitle Or, Margaret's Saturday Mornings, is by Caroline French Benton. Margaret looks at the cover of a book and finds painted on it a little girl who looks just like her, with a big apron on and a sweeping-cap, holding a broom in one hand and a dust-pan in the other. Margaret says the name of her book is Saturday Mornings, because other days she has to go to school, but Saturdays she can sweep and dust and wash dishes.

Margaret's mother holds the pan while Margaret sweeps the dust up, and they brush out the corners of the room with the whisk and pan because the broom was so large that it would not go in easily. The mother says that once in a while it is a good plan to have Bridget wipe off the carpets quickly with warm water in which a little ammonia has been put.
