About this book
The Golden Calf, Which the World Adores, and Desires is a work by Johann Friedrich Helvetius. The opening says the work handles the most rare and incomparable wonder of nature in transmuting metals, and how the entire substance of lead was in one moment transmuted in Gold-Obrizon with an exceeding small particle of the true Philosophick Stone. The opening also says the work was written in Latin by a Doctor and Practitioner of Medicine at the Hague and faithfully Englished.
The text says that many Stupid Men will rise up, and contradict the truth of its true Experience touching the Philosophick Stone. The text says one will have it to be a work of the Devil, and another affirms there is no such thing. In a conversation, a speaker promises to return at nine of the Clock to shew how the Medicine must be used to transmute Lead into Gold.
