About this book
The study compares accounts of the giving of Jesus's body for burial, distinguishing statements limited to the fragment from representations in the canonical Gospels. The quoted narrative has Herod say that burial would have taken place even without a request, because the Sabbath is at hand. The narrative describes the Lord as keeping silence during crucifixion, as though feeling no pain.
The study says the representation of sunlight returning and the Jews' relief at finding the ninth hour is limited to the fragment. The discussion of Mark says Pilate wondered whether death had already occurred and called the centurion to establish the fact before granting the body.
