About this book
John W. Burgon's study, dated 1871 on its title page, is called The Last Twelve Verses of the Gospel According to S. Mark, Vindicated Against Recent Critical Objectors and Established. It comes with facsimiles of Codex א and Codex L and a dedication to Sir Roundell Palmer. The first chapters are titled "The Case of the Last Twelve Verses of S. Mark's Gospel, Stated" and "The Hostile Verdict of Biblical Critics Shewn to Be Quite of Recent Date."
The text includes Greek passages from Eusebius and Victor set side by side, and a note on a photographed facsimile of a folio of Codex L at Paris, containing Mark xvi. 6 to 9, made in October 1869 with the permission of M. de Wailly. It also lists Syriac marginal references that link verses of Mark to passages in Matthew, Luke and John. The title page quotes a remark that urges always verifying your references.
