About this book
The Holy See and the Wandering of the Nations, from St. Leo I to St. Gregory I by T. W. Allies is a work of papal history. An argument concerning the Council of Chalcedon says that the council addressed St. Leo as entrusted by the Saviour with guardianship of the Vine. The discussion interprets that expression as recognition that the office was not conferred by the decree of any council representing the Church.
The historical account states that Pope Hormisdas was succeeded by Pope John I in 523. Pope John I is described as undertaking an embassy to the emperor Justin at Theodorick's command, receiving the highest honour at Byzantium and returning to die imprisoned at Ravenna in 526.
