About this book
Church and State as Seen in the Formation of Christendom by T. W. Allies examines a vision contrasting earthly empire with a kingdom established by the God of heaven. The discussion lists divine institution, exemption from destruction, and freedom from transfer to another people among the attributes assigned to that kingdom. The comparison places the heavenly kingdom in this same world, just as the earthly kingdom has its seat in this world.
A quoted commentary describes the Church as made impregnable despite the conflicts directed against it. The text says Christian writers describe converts who abandoned sensual passions or intellectual pride for chastity or humility.
