About this book
The Homicidal Diary is by Earl Peirce. The opening asks what strange compulsion drove an ordinarily gentle and cultured man, on one night of each week, to roam the city streets and commit a ghastly crime. The narrator says he is writing this account of his friend Jason Carse in the interests of both justice and psychiatry, and perhaps of demonology as well.
One passage describes a man who was a brilliant and respected criminologist, recognized at the time of his arrest as one of the greatest students of the modern world. One character says: I am in the power of that book. I am the puppet of a horror that has outlived all natural deaths. Another passage speaks of a horrible and unnatural bondage between Emil Drukker and Jason Carse, and of the bondage of the diary.
