A fishing trip at Lost Pond changes direction when Bill and Gordon Hunniwell hear that their friend Steve Rogers wants to see them. The brothers fly home in the Albatross, an electric airplane fitted with a second propeller for vertical takeoff. Rogers, a Secret Service officer, has found an old paper among family belongings in a Gloucester attic, and its contents bring him to the boys.
L. P. Wyman combines a juvenile mystery with aviation adventure, giving practical details of the plane alongside the brothers' easy banter. In a later episode, a stranded businessman named Ito tells them how a dishonest partner used a false medical claim to have him sent to Molokai. Their response mixes sympathy with the immediate problem of getting four people into the air. Readers interested in inventive flying machines will find technical speculation woven into a story of friendship and sudden changes of fortune.
