The Idyl of Twin Fires, by Walter Prichard Eaton, is illustrated by Thomas Fogarty. The speaker, secretly pleased beyond measure at the excellent preservation of the interior, keeps a discreet silence.

The brook flowed cheerily below the orchard, wound amid the open grove of maples, and went with a little drop over green stones into the dusk of the pines. A woman says softly that a farmer shouldn't talk in literary allusions. The speaker says the preceding summer he had made about $200 out of his produce, which in his first naïve enthusiasm pleased him greatly.
