About this book
John Dewey, who is described as Professor of Philosophy in Columbia University, wrote the book called The Influence of Darwin on Philosophy, and Other Essays in Contemporary Thought. The preface says a collection of essays on various topics written during a series of years may perhaps find room for an independent word to indicate the kind of unity they seem, to their writer, to possess. The preface says that probably every one acquainted with present philosophic thought would term it a philosophy of transition and reconstruction.
The text says that experience always carries with it and within it certain systematized arrangements, certain classifications. The text says that, as against Hume, or even Locke, we may be duly grateful to Kant for enforcing acknowledgment of these facts. The text quotes a passage saying that contemplation of a universe which is without conceivable beginning or end and without intelligible purpose yields no satisfaction.
