The Lady's Own Cookery Book, and New Dinner-Table Directory is by Charlotte Campbell Bury, and its title promises a large collection of original receipts. The title says the receipts include the authoress's many years of observation, experience, and research as well as contributions from an extensive circle of acquaintance, and that the book is adapted to persons living in the highest style and to those of moderate fortune.

Lists headed by month give fish, game and poultry, fruit, and roots and vegetables; the list for July names turbot, salmon, leverets, geese, carrots and potatoes. Walnut Ketchup appears in numbered receipts, one of which has the reader pound one hundred walnuts very fine, put them in a glazed pan with a quart of vinegar, stir them daily for ten days and squeeze them very dry through a coarse cloth. A wine receipt puts one bottle of brandy to every ten gallons of wine and says the wine will be fit to drink in about eight months, but better if left twelve; Damson Wine is also given.
