About this book
The Land of Long Ago is by Eliza Calvert Hall, author of Aunt Jane of Kentucky. The contents list names chapters such as A Ride to Town, The House that Was a Wedding Fee, The Courtship of Miss Amaryllis, Aunt Jane Goes A-Visiting and The Marriage Problem in Goshen, among others. The dedication is to My Children, Margery, Alexander, Thomas, and Cecilia.
Uncle Billy did not approve of the oiled roads, and says it looks to him like the town folks will never get through circumventing Providence. A liquid voice sounded over the clover field asking Bob White, is your wheat ripe?, and Aunt Jane remarks that it is a voice that won't be heard in the land much longer. Henry looks at the shirt and at her face and bursts out laughing, and says to Emmeline that he never was married to that woman and never wanted to marry her. One hymn begins, A few more years shall roll, A few more seasons come, and we shall be with those that rest, asleep within the tomb.
