About this book
The Leardo Map of the World, 1452 or 1453 examines a map whose inscription says it shows the relation of land and islands to the seas. The discussion describes dimensions of the earth and heavenly bodies given on the asserted authority of Macrobius, calling the figures fanciful and unlike those actually cited by him. The calendar explanation describes eight concentric circles, with the innermost supplying Easter dates for ninety-five years, from April 1, 1453, to April 10, 1547.
The calendar's second circle gives month names beginning with March and states the day, hour and minute when the sun enters each sign of the zodiac. The explanation of map reproduction describes a process in which a gelatin film is sensitized with a chromic salt and exposed to light beneath a negative.
