About this book
The Life of Albert Gallatin is a biography whose preface says that a large part concerns a period of American history as yet unwritten. The preface describes an intention to supply historians with material unlikely to appear except in such a form. An account of voting says that each town has equal suffrage, with Boston having no greater right than a village of two hundred men.
A first-person account expresses indignation at the sight of a bayonet used to preserve order among citizens. The biographical discussion directs students to published notes and despatches in American State Papers for the details of negotiations.
