About this book
The Little Lady of the Big House is by Jack London. A man wakes in the dark and knows himself to be Dick Forrest, the master of broad acres. Dick Forrest passes his people at a gallop through the dairy center of a ranch, almost a sea of buildings with batteries of silos, and the Big House is called the hub of the ranch organization.
Paula chants “Jong-Keena, Jong-Keena” with her husband while the stakes of a game grow to a wrist watch, spurs and a boot, and Mrs. Tully remonstrates, “Now, Paula, you simply must stop this.” In one conversation a man says he will tell a woman all his heart and wants all hers in return, and she says she thought that for a long time she had been “a habit to you.”
