About this book
The Logbooks of the Lady Nelson brings together the vessel's logbooks with the journal of her first commander, Lieutenant James Grant. The title page announces charts and illustrations taken from originals in the Admiralty Library. The preface describes the Lady Nelson as an Australian discovery ship employed exclusively in Australian waters during her successive commissions.
The voyage account describes driving rain entering beneath the covering boards and along the gunwale, and heavy seas that almost enveloped the brig. The account of Port Essington records Captain Bremer's praise for its depth and secure capacity, while identifying the lack of fresh water as its drawback. The accompanying note says that plenty of good-quality water turned out to be available afterwards, although the water had unfortunately escaped discovery at the time.
