About this book
The Madness of May is by Meredith Nicholson, with illustrations by Frederic Dorr Steele, and carries a line from The Age of Chivalry about riding a-maying in woods and meadows. The first chapter begins with Billy Deering letting himself into his father's house near Radford Hills, Westchester County.
In one passage a visitor gives his name as Hood, R. Hood, and explains that he took it from Robin Hood. He calls himself a hobo with a weakness for good society and a friend of the under dog, and Deering does not know what to make of him. Another passage finds the two in an illustrator's studio, where sketches of clowns and harlequins lie about and the signature on the proofs reads Mary B. Taylor.
