When their pals Chet Morton and Biff Hooper set off on a motorboat cruise up the coast and simply do not come back, Frank and Joe Hardy refuse to wait for the worst. The fourth book in the series turns a summer holiday into a rescue, sending the brothers through squalls and along a lonely stretch of shore where a band of crooks has holed up. The trail ends at a remote island and a showdown to free the captured boys. Published in 1928 as by Franklin W. Dixon, it is one of the leaner, faster reads of the early Hardy Boys, built almost entirely on chase and pursuit. Available free as a PDF and EPUB.
