About this book
The Missing Link in Modern Spiritualism is by A. Leah Underhill, of the Fox family. The dedication reads that the narrative is dedicated to the author's husband, Daniel Underhill. The editor's preface says the author wrote the volume from time to time, from her recollections and documentary materials, which include bushels of letters.
One statement in the book says a foot-pedlar called about two o'clock in the afternoon, and that the speaker thought the pedlar was about thirty years old. A notice in the book says that a meeting of the citizens of Chillicothe and vicinity, friendly to the investigation of the phenomena known as "Spirit rappings" and "Spiritual manifestations", was held in the city of Chillicothe on May 23, 1851. One narrator says that walking, talking, and the opening and shutting of doors were distinctly heard, and asks mother whether it can be possible that the girls are in the kitchen at this late hour.
