About this book
Edward Hooker Dewey's The No Breakfast Plan and the Fasting-Cure is a doctor's writing on eating and illness. The front matter lists his other books with quoted praise from several physicians. In a first-person passage he recalls that while studying medicine he had little faith in dosing, and that he grew up in a large country family, several miles from a physician, where herb tea was the usual remedy.
Other passages quote newspapers. One tells of Mr. C. C. H. Cowan of Warrensburg, Illinois, who wrote to Dewey in early 1899 about going on a fast, and gives Dewey's usual reply to such letters, along with a Decatur paper's report of April 16, 1899 that recalls Dr. Tanner's forty days in New York. Another, from the North American of May 8, 1900, reports on a woman who fasted for nearly forty days because of rheumatism, and her daughter's comment on it.
