About this book
The Miracle of Saint Anthony is by Maurice Maeterlinck, translated by Alexander Teixeira de Mattos, with an introduction by Arthur Bartlett. The text is set out as dialogue, with the speaker’s name before each line, among them Saint Anthony and Virginie.
A speaker labelled Virginie names Monsieur Gustave and says there are twenty houses in the street, adding that it means money. Virginie tells a speaker that a lantern thing is going out and asks whether it keeps burning very long. In a scene with a Sergeant, a speaker calls a man a criminal or a madman who must absolutely be locked up, and the Sergeant says that they will get rid of him.
