About this book
The Queen of Farrandale, labelled A Novel, is by Clara Louise Burnham. The contents list chapter titles such as A Bobbed Head, Mrs. Lumbard and Visiting the Sick, among others. Ogden studies Hugh thoughtfully and tells him, "You don’t resemble your father. Neither did Carol." Hugh takes a small rubbed morocco photograph case from an inside pocket and hands it to his friend.
Hugh takes the photograph case back without ceremony, returns it to his inside pocket, and says it was Carol’s and that she gave it to him to take over there. Miss Frink presses the sides of a picture frame until it hurts and says it is only her money, which is the humiliation. Hugh tells Colonel Duane that he is not satisfied with his talk with Grimshaw.
