About this book
The Red Fox's Son, with the subtitle A Romance of Bharbazonia, is by Edgar M. Dilley. Dale, a character who speaks in the first person, says that he has been practising his profession, distributing with a free hand his pills and physic to the residents of Philadelphia. Nick brings down a mandarin's coat of many colours that he had picked up in Japan for the speaker.
The text says that Solonika, as if impelled by a terrible fascination, had ridden over to the village on her black horse and watched the dying embers complete their fiendish work. The text asks what the Church, backed by the peasantry, would not do to one who defiled the altar, if it would punish blasphemy in such mediæval fashion. In a scene on a stair, soldiers are upon Nick, whose flashing sword flew from stair-rail to wall with blinding rapidity, holding them at bay.
