About this book
The Sea Shore by William S. Furneaux describes the water reaching its highest limit on the beach before gradually descending, generally for a little more than six hours. The explanation of tides says that the daily changes are determined to a great extent by the rotation of the earth.
The description of scallops identifies a nearly round shell with ears beside the umbones and prominent radiating ribs on both valves. The scallop rests on the more convex right valve, distinguished by a notch beneath the anterior ear. The scallop's hinge is straight, with a very narrow ligament, and the internal cartilage sits in a central pit.
