About this book
The Seventh Order is a book by Jerry Sohl. The opening has a silver needle move with fantastic speed, glide noiselessly through the atmosphere and settle gently to the ground near a wood as a lifeless, cylindrical, streamlined silver object eight feet long and three feet in diameter.
A creature of bright blue metal slides out of the object and stands upright, with the figure of a man, except that it is not human. Brentwood is described as a community of 10,000 in northern Illinois that would have been like any other average community had it not been for Presser College. Prof. Ansel Tomlin is reading a colleague's new treatise on psychology on his front porch when the humanoid comes down the street and turns in at his walk. Prof. Tomlin, alone on the porch with the robot, tells George he had better return to his ship, warning that people just won't stand for what he has done.
