About this book

The Sisters, by Georg Ebers, is translated from the German by Clara Bell. The dedication to Herr Eduard von Hallberger asks permission to dedicate the pages to a dear friend, and speaks of twenty years during which a warm and fast friendship has subsisted between them. The dedication says that four of the writer's works first saw the light under the care of the person addressed, and calls this one the fifth book.

Klea answers a question about whether Cleopatra herself gave her the bunch by saying that one of her escort threw them to her. Lysias takes a tablet in his hand and says it belongs to the sculptor, for there is his name. Lysias says of some verses that they are written more clearly than beautifully.
