About this book

The Six Fingers of Time is by R. A. Lafferty. A character breaks the glass of water on his night stand, and the glass shatters slowly. The big clock still says six, and the second hand has moved a third of the dial.

The book lists advantages intellectual, monetary, and amorous in being able to enter the accelerated state at will. A character named Vincent could always find eight or ten minutes unobserved to accomplish the day's work, and a fifteen-minute coffee break could turn into a fifteen-hour romp around the town. The text describes a boyish pleasure in becoming a ghost: to appear and stand motionless in front of an onrushing train and to cause the scream of the whistle.
