About this book

The Spanish Jade is by Maurice Hewlett and comes with full page coloured illustrations. The contents list includes chapters titled The Pleasant Errand, Two on Horseback, Gil Perez de Segovia and A Glimpse of Manuela, among others. The text describes a huge and brown, wooden Christ with black horse-hair tresses, staring white eyeballs and staring red wounds, hanging from a cross.

A character named Manvers catches Gil Perez one morning putting boots by his door, and calls out to ask what he is doing with his boots. A man whom Manuela addresses as Don Osmund asks her to think of him as a man who has done her a great wrong, and who wants to put himself right if he may.
