About this book

Red-Cap, Blue-Cap and Yellow-Cap live inside a mountain, listening to a visiting frog's accounts of the world beyond it. Their father, Old Black-Cap, finally sends them out to recover his missing Red Feather. Whoever brings it back will inherit his mountain kingdom. Mabel G. Taggart gives the three brothers a fairy-tale quest that begins with a rabbit hole and soon brings an unexpected tumble into a stream.

Talking animals offer practical help as the brothers travel through a forest and towards the sea. A water-rat, a rabbit and a great fish each have a part in their progress, while Tom Tiddler's tempting gold and silver bring trouble. Written for children, the story pairs short conversations with quick changes of scene and occasional rhyming directions.
