About this book
Mop pulls a rag man's cart, while Frisk rides beside a seller of pies. After harsh treatment drives Mop away, he meets the proud Frisk, who has left his own home in hopes of finding a richer owner. The two dogs agree to meet again in a month and compare their fortunes. Their next encounter turns the difference between a fine appearance and a kind heart into a lesson in friendship.
Aunt Fanny tells this children's animal story in words of five letters or fewer, using talking dogs, lively dialogue and small scenes of everyday life. Later passages bring dogs onto a stage, where comic costumes are accompanied by signs of harsh treatment behind the scenes. Readers interested in early reading books will find a clear moral purpose here: kindness to animals and generosity matter more than status or a handsome coat.
