About this book

The Trail of the White Mule is credited to B. M. Bower. Chapter One shows Casey Ryan hunched behind the wheel of a large, dark blue touring car with a kinked front fender and the glass gone from the left headlight. The traffic officer is described as bigger than Casey, and madder, and Casey offered to lick the livin' tar outa him before accepting a pale, expensive ticket.

One speaker says Casey enjoyed himself hugely while he was whipping things into shape, but the last month he's been going stale. The text speaks of the blameless joy of riding in a Ford toward the desert, with a prince of a fellow for company. The text says Mack Nolan heard nearly every word spoken by Smiling Lou, Casey and Jim Cassidy.
