About this book
The True Story of Christopher Columbus, Called the Great Admiral is a book by Elbridge S. Brooks. The contents list, among others, chapters titled "HOW COLUMBUS GAINED A QUEEN FOR HIS FRIEND" and "HOW THE ADMIRAL SAILED AWAY". The book says the son of the king of Portugal, named Prince Henry, said he believed that ships could sail around Africa and so get to India.
The book reports a claim that nearly five hundred years before Columbus landed, a Norwegian prince or viking, whose name was Leif Ericsson, had built on the banks of the beautiful Charles River, some twelve miles from Boston, a city which he called Norumbega, and adds that this has not really been proved. The book says Columbus had landed on a flat little "key" known as Watling's Island down among the West Indies, on the twelfth day of October.
