About this book
The Voyage of the Hoppergrass is a book by Edmund Lester Pearson. A letter addressed to Philip says the story is about boys and men, with two kinds of pirates in it. Captain Bannister's face turns a darker red, and he glances over his shoulder at a man. Jimmy Toppan asks what a certain aunt's name is, and the reply is Hannah J. Pettingell.
A character named Gregory sits in the cockpit, contentedly smoking a clay pipe and watching the sails with the air of an owner. Pete and the Chief are both sitting quietly in the stern. The narrator says the dory's sail went up in a jiffy, and that the wind again seemed to favor the people in the dory.
