About this book

The Wanderers is a book by Mary Johnston. The contents list names, among others, The Forest, The Cave, Big Trouble, Property, What’s in a Name?, The Prophet, The Amazon and The Priestess of Marduk. The text says the children, cowering beside the fire, set up a yelping welcome, and that someone seated upon the cavern floor took up and suckled the littlest one.

The text says language was a scanty thing, and that uncombined guttural or high-pitched sounds answered well enough for three fourths of communication. A character named Sadyattes draws from his girdle a written-over paper and says it is for Nitetis, from Meranes. The text says Aryenis thought it was so, for indeed the letter was finely forged.
